This method can be used in my project, and I will make some models, since after I watched the candle holder-Crying polar bear, I think that the body of animal in my project also can be weak or painful, which is caused by human take body parts away from them. Like rhino will be weak without horn, because it doesn’t have “weapon” to protect itself, on the other hand shark can not swimming in the ocean without fin. Therefore, animal will be endangered or died without these body parts. In my project, the body part like horn and fin will be wearable, also the animal will be weak or painful, and I want to show to people is when they wear the jewellery, just like take the body part away from animal, animal will endangered or died.

Birds made of flowers

red-hong-yi-flower-bird-series-designboom-03Red Hong Yi, a designer from Malaysia, used branches, chrysanthemums, and other plants to make a lot of lifelike birds. She suggested that, she started this series when she realized that flower petals – especially gerbera petals – look similar to feathers especially when they are arranged on top of one another, layer by layer.

Last week, in the tutorial of Project 2, thanks to Ray, he showed me a fantastic work on the blog-candle holder which is called ” Crying Polar Bear ” and it is useful for my project (as follows).

These works is also a good method that can raise the awareness of animal protection. As we know that, a lot animals was endangered which is caused by habitat loss, just like polar bear. Because of global warming, the high temperature melt the ice, leading to polar bears’ homeland disappeared. The designer want to make people pay more attention to these animals, and help them through her works.

After saw these works, I think our aims are similar-raising awareness of animal protection, from her works, I think animals in my project also can be painful, like they are crying, or sweating. And also the form of animal’s body can be weak by using skeleton or other materials. That means, when people take the part of body (jewellery) away from animal, people can see the animal will be painful or weak.

Emily Watson-Carved rings and faux bone

Last week, I made some samples of my project, especially using clay to make the body of animals and make the part of animal wearable, which makes me think that I can use other materials to make parts of animals. Thanks to Jules, she told me a website which is the works of Emily Watson, who made carved pieces and uses faux bone to make jewellery, inspires me a lot.

Thus, I think I can also use these method to make parts of animals, which can make the part of animal artistic and wearable.

A method that can be used in my project

Currently, there are many method to commemorate died animals, such as photos, things that animals wear when they alive, or using skeletons to make decorations. For jewellery designer Tithi Kutchamuch, who is from Thailand, the element that she often use in her works is animals, which is caused by there were many animals accompany her in her life.

For Tithi, she like to bring her pet everywhere with her if she could (her dog died when she went back to her parent’s home), so born the Secret Friend jewellery where jewellery as a part of home that you can bring with, keep them save and take them home.

I think, these jewellery are not only  for people to wear, but also can be a decoration to put on the table that can make people remember their pet.  In order to raising awareness of animal protection, I can trying this method to make people pay attention to what they have done to those endangered animals. For example, I can using the form of rhino horn to make jewellery, meanwhile the jewelley also can be put on a model of the body of rhino (illustrated above).

Materials and technology I will test

In the project 1, I proposed to use animals’ bones and metals to make the body of animals. However, after that, I thought I can use other materials and technology to instead of those materials which are easily to be broken and heavy. Such as clay, plastic and so on.
